FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Under new ownership since 2024, the Azuero retreat – about a five-hour drive from Panama City, Panamá – reopens with 14 renovated rooms, two apartments, surf break steps just steps away and airport transfers for groups, as more North Americans turn to Panamá for its U.S.-dollar economy and visa-free travel.

PLAYA GUÁNICO, Panamá – September 11, 2026 – Guanico Beach Resort, a beachfront property on the Pacific coast of Panamá’s Azuero Peninsula, today announced the completion of an 18-month transformation that has taken it from a rustic surf camp to a full beach-resort standard. The relaunch comes as a growing number of North American travelers and retirees turn to Panamá, drawn by its U.S.-dollar economy and visa-free entry for U.S. citizens.

Located roughly a five-hour drive south of Panama City, Guánico sits on the Azuero Peninsula, a less-developed stretch of Panamá’s Pacific coast known for its traditional Panamanian culture, uncrowded beaches, and abundant marine life such as sea turtles. The remote setting keeps its beaches far quieter than the country’s more established resort areas.

Acquired by new owners in 2024, the resort has spent the past 18 months renovating its rooms and raising its standard of service, while retaining the quiet, secluded character that distinguishes it from larger beach destinations.

“We’ve spent the last year and a half rebuilding this place, without losing what makes it special,” said Miguel Adams, General Manager and President of Guanico Beach Resort. “There’s no traffic, no crowds, no chaos – just the beach, the surf and nature. That’s the whole point.”

Fronted by a wide Pacific beach and surrounded by jungle, the resort is designed for travelers seeking the outdoors without the crowds of a conventional resort. The surf break sits steps from the hotel, and guests can fill their days with horseback riding, fishing and e-bikes, or relaxing by the pool.

Despite the remote setting, the resort offers reliable fiber-optic Wi-Fi, backup power, strong water pressure, a pool, and an on-site restaurant and bar serving wood-fired, ocean-inspired local and international cuisine.
The resort is reached via Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City, which is served by direct flights from many U.S. cities, followed by an approximately five-hour drive to the coast. For groups of six or more, the resort offers subsidized round-trip transport, with door-to-door pickup and return from the airport and Panama City.

The resort’s accommodations comprise 14 rooms and two self-catering apartments – each apartment sleeping up to four and bookable directly through the resort – suited to couples, families, groups, retreats and special celebrations.
