Real Estate Tech Leader Shares Lessons on Building Sustainable Success After Burnout

A growing number of real estate professionals are rejecting the traditional “hustle culture” in favor of what one industry veteran calls “life by design.” Danielle Damianov, CEO of Done By One CRM, argues that the industry’s conventional wisdom about success through sacrifice needs a radical update.
“What I discovered is I built a business that I was the employee of, and I no longer wanted to do that,” Damianov says of her early career. “I changed everything to build a life by design.”
The Cost of Traditional Success
Damianov points to her parents’ experience as a cautionary tale about conventional entrepreneurship: “They hustle, hustle, hustle, really hard work. Entrepreneurs who came from nothing and built a huge business. But they’re 70 now, selling their business, looking to travel, but my dad’s back isn’t good, my mom has heart problems.”
This observation led Damianov to question the industry’s standard operating model. “How can I do everything I need to do in my business, move the needle every day, and be done by one so I can go out and live my life?” she says.
Technology as Freedom Enabler
The answer, according to Damianov, lies in strategic use of technology. She describes a recent experience testing this approach: “I was in Barcelona for five weeks, my AI was handling text messages, emails, getting people to do loan applications. By the time I got out of a conference, I already had a loan application done.”
However, Damianov says many professionals struggle with this transition. “People get scared. They don’t want to let go, they don’t want to give up control. They feel like they can do it better,” she observes. “And probably in some ways they can. But the issue is sustainability.”
Building Sustainable Success
Damianov’s approach to business design emphasizes creating systems that support life goals rather than consume them. Instead of allowing work to dictate her time, she structures her operations to align with personal sustainability. This includes automated lead capture and response systems, AI-powered tools to manage communication efficiently, and structured time blocks dedicated to high-value activities. Just as importantly, she integrates clear boundaries for personal time into her workflow, treating rest and reflection as essential components of long-term success, not optional luxuries.
“We only get one life to live,” Damianov says. “The goal isn’t just to build a successful business – it’s to build one that serves your life rather than consuming it.”
