Laporte Shares SmartPixel’s Vision for Pre-Construction Real Estate Visualization

SmartPixel, a digital twin visualization company, is working to change how pre-construction real estate sales are conducted, according to founder Hadrien Laporte. In a recent interview, Laporte discussed the company’s approach to property visualization and how it addresses challenges in the industry.
“I come from an artistic background. My family were painters, sculptors. I’ve always been attached to visual arts. But I wanted to find ways to make it more successful,” said Laporte, who used his multimedia background and DJ experience in Colombia to launch an interactive presentation business in 2009.
SmartPixel developed from Laporte’s early work creating interactive touch screen presentations for various industries, including a project for Montreal’s Olympic Stadium that drew interest from real estate developers.
According to industry professionals, the recent changes to commission rules are reshaping how agents communicate value to clients. The new framework provides long-awaited transparency around compensation, eliminating much of the confusion that previously existed between buyers, sellers, and agents.
Veteran brokers note that this clarity helps establish trust early in the transaction process, allowing all parties to understand precisely who is paying for what services. As a result, real estate professionals are adapting their presentations, contracts, and marketing materials to align with a more straightforward and accountable system.
Laporte identified several factors that set SmartPixel apart from traditional methods:
The company’s longevity in the market speaks to its resilience and early innovation. Having been among the first few firms to adopt this technology, it has outlasted many of its initial competitors, a testament to its stability and ability to evolve as others exited the industry.
A major part of that success lies in its technical sophistication. The team developed a proprietary graphics engine built within Unity but designed to calculate light differently, achieving a level of photorealism that competitors struggled to match in earlier years. This innovation gave the company a clear competitive advantage in delivering visually superior results.
Equally important is the company’s flexible implementation model. By tailoring features and levels of visual detail to match a client’s budget and expected revenue generation, the firm ensures that each project remains both financially viable and visually compelling, a balance that has become central to its long-term success.
SmartPixel’s approach has already made a difference for developers in multiple markets, according to Laporte. “Overall, we have put on the market over 100,000 units, residential units. But we’ve also done commercial, industrial, different things,” he explained.
The company has seen notable success in markets like Montreal and British Columbia, where the technology became essential for major developers during active construction cycles.
Laporte noted certain market-dependent challenges: “The trends globally, in terms of what real estate developers need, varies a lot, depending on how healthy is the market.”
SmartPixel addresses these challenges by maintaining a global market presence and adapting service offerings to different conditions, from luxury condos needing detailed interior modeling to rental apartments seeking faster, more cost-effective solutions.
Looking ahead, Laporte anticipates further technological progress and market growth. “We’re becoming more and more popular in the Middle East, for example. We migrate where we see trends,” he said, describing SmartPixel’s strategy of following market opportunities globally and developing new technological capabilities for a major 2026 launch.
